Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what data Scan Translator collects, how we use it, and what rights you have. It applies to our website, extension, APIs, and related services.
1) Service Operator
Scan Translator is an independent online service operated from Europe (European Union).
2) Data We Collect
- Account data: email address, authentication provider, and session metadata.
- Billing data: credit pack purchases, credit balance, payment status, and transaction references.
- Usage data: feature usage, upload status, and processing outcomes.
- Uploaded content: images and related file metadata needed to process translations.
- We do not store account passwords in our database.
- We do not collect or store credit card numbers or banking details in our own systems.
- We do not persist the raw IP address used for anonymous-trial security checks.
Manga Downloader
Manga Downloader reads the URL and image resources of the reader page you select to create a ZIP locally in your browser. If a website blocks direct image downloads, it sends the page URL and image URL to our HTTPS fallback proxy to retrieve the image. The proxy does not use browser cookies or store downloaded images. Cloudflare may process the client IP address transiently to apply abuse-rate limiting.
Anonymous translation trial
For the three-image anonymous trial, the raw IP address and user agent are processed transiently for abuse and VPN/proxy checks and are not persisted. We retain pseudonymous HMAC digests of the network and user agent, plus the IPHub security verdict needed to enforce the trial; the raw values are not retained. Cloudflare filters trial uploads and IPHub supplies the network-risk verdict as security service providers. The essential HttpOnly cookie st_trial_subject lasts up to 12 months to enforce and recover the same-browser trial. Anonymous uploads and translated results use temporary processing storage; result access is available for up to 30 minutes. They are not stored in R2 as account translations.
3) How We Use Data
- To create and secure your account.
- To process translations, downloads, and delivery workflows.
- To manage credits, billing operations, and purchase records.
- To detect abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access.
- To improve service quality, performance, and support response.
- To run internal statistics and operational checks that help monitor reliability and service health.
4) Legal Bases (EEA/UK)
- Contract performance: to provide the services you requested.
- Legitimate interests: security, fraud prevention, reliability, and product improvements.
- Legal obligations: when required by applicable law.
- Consent: where legally required for specific processing activities.
5) Sharing and Processors
We share data only as needed to operate the service. Payments are processed by Stripe, which handles payment details directly. We do not receive or store raw card or banking details. Hosting and file delivery use infrastructure providers including Cloudflare. Some translation operations also rely on external text recognition and AI providers acting as service providers for processing. We only store the minimum data needed to operate the product, such as account records, translation-related data, and payment/transaction references. These providers process data under contractual obligations and their own privacy/security terms.
Free-trial abuse prevention relies on local account-activity signals and reviewed mail-server information. We do not send email domains to an external disposable-email reputation service.
6) Data We Do Not Sell
We do not sell your personal data.
7) International Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
8) Retention
- Account and billing records are retained as needed to provide the service and comply with legal obligations.
- Final translated images are stored on Cloudflare for up to 90 days, then automatically deleted.
- Other uploaded files are retained only as long as needed for processing and delivery.
9) Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal data. Service data is stored in managed external infrastructure with security controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we continuously work to reduce risk.
10) Cookies and Local Storage
We use cookies and local storage for session management, authentication flow, and product functionality. Disabling these technologies may prevent some features from working correctly.
11) Your Rights
- Access, update, or delete your personal data where applicable.
- Request restriction or objection to certain processing.
- Request data portability where legally available.
- Withdraw consent for consent-based processing.
- Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority if required by law.
12) Children
Our service is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will review and remove it where appropriate.
13) Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above and, when required, by providing additional notice.
