DevBlog - Google Form & Release 1.0
Hello everyone! This article is here to discuss the progress of Scan Translator and what we have planned for the future.
First and foremost, thank you to all our users for your support! As I write this, we have reached 6,000 users who have completed over 129,392 translations – that's incredible! So, a big thank you to all of you.
Some of you may wonder why the extension is not free. The reason is quite simple: each translation costs us money because we use multiple services to detect the text in images and to translate it (Google Translate and DeepL for translation). We have a substantial amount of traffic, and our paying users help us keep the extension alive without further restricting the number of weekly credits available to free users. We also work on the extension during our free time, in addition to our day jobs, striving to satisfy as many users as possible.
We appreciate your feedback on the extension, and we're thrilled to see that, overall, you enjoy using it. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email us at [email protected] so we can help. Here's a link to a Google Form where you can provide your opinions on various aspects of the extension and let us know what you need for the future. It would be extremely helpful if each of you could take the time to respond so we can grow Scan Translator together!
As for the 1.0 update, here are the key changes:
You can now copy the text displayed in the translated bubbles
You can select a custom font size that will override the default one
We have improved compatibility with new websites
We understand that the extension does not work on every website, and unfortunately, there is not much we can do about it. Some websites simply block our server from accessing the images for translation. In such cases, the best solution is to download the image and translate it directly using our dedicated tool at https://scan-translator.com/upload. We also recommend taking screenshots of translated pages if you want to reread your manga without using additional credits.
Thank you for reading this article. We wanted to provide a comprehensive update on the current state of Scan Translator. Don't forget to check out the Google Form to help us improve Scan Translator and gather your valuable feedback.
